On a 286 I learned Pascal
- Back then
- On a 286 I worked in Pascal, a strict language that didn't let you do just anything.
- What I did
- I wrote structured code, in clear pieces, so I could understand what I'd done the next day.
- What I learned
- That a strict language is a good school: it forces you to think before you write.
- Today
- I still prefer clear code with rules to code written quickly and hard to read later.
The discipline from back then still shows today in the way I organise a project.
